There’s something about an infinity edge pool that stops people in their tracks. The water seems to disappear right at the horizon, blending into the sky or the landscape beyond. It’s the kind of design feature that turns a pool into the centerpiece of an entire property.
Right now, our team at Mid State Pools is in the middle of one of our most exciting projects yet: a custom infinity edge pool build at Rigby’s Water World. We wanted to take you behind the scenes and share what goes into a project like this, why infinity edges are so striking, and what we love about working on big, ambitious pool builds in Middle Georgia.
What Is an Infinity Edge Pool?
An infinity edge pool, sometimes called a vanishing edge or negative edge pool, is designed so that one or more sides of the pool sit flush with the surrounding water level. Water spills continuously over that edge into a hidden catch basin below, then gets recirculated back into the pool.
The visual effect is dramatic. Stand at the right angle and the pool looks like it’s flowing straight off into the distance. There’s no visible coping, no rim, just water meeting horizon.
Infinity edges are a favorite for properties with a great view, whether that’s a treeline, a lake, a hillside, or in this case, a brand new water park experience designed to wow visitors.
Why Rigby’s Water World Is a Perfect Fit
Rigby’s Water World has been creating unforgettable experiences for families across the Southeast for years. When a project comes our way that’s going to be enjoyed by countless families, kids, and visitors, we take that seriously. Every commercial pool we build needs to deliver on safety, durability, and visual impact, and an infinity edge raises the bar on all three.
Designing and building a pool of this scale is a different kind of project than your typical backyard installation. We’re working with a larger footprint, more complex water features, and engineering that has to perform flawlessly day after day under heavy use.
What Goes Into an Infinity Edge Pool Build
Building an infinity edge pool isn’t just construction, it’s choreography. Every step has to line up, and the level tolerances are tight. Here’s a peek at what’s involved.
Engineering the Vanishing Edge
The illusion only works if the edge is dead level across its entire span. A few millimeters off and the water flow becomes uneven and the visual effect is lost. Our team builds the edge with precision, then tests, adjusts, and tests again before construction continues.
Designing the Catch Basin
Below the visible pool sits a hidden catch basin that captures the water flowing over the edge. It has to be sized correctly to handle the volume, with the right plumbing to circulate water back to the main pool without delay. Get the math wrong and you end up with an empty basin or an overflowing one, neither of which is acceptable.
Plumbing and Filtration
Infinity edge pools use significantly more plumbing than standard pools. The pumps, filters, and circulation systems have to be sized to keep water moving over the edge constantly while still maintaining excellent water quality and clarity.
Finishes and Tile Work
Because the edge is one of the most photographed features of any infinity pool, the tile and finish work has to be flawless. We work closely with our clients on color, texture, and material to make sure the finished look matches the vision.
Why We Love Custom Builds in Middle Georgia
Projects like the one at Rigby’s Water World remind us why we do what we do. Mid State Pools has been family-owned in Warner Robins since 1988, and over more than three decades we’ve worked on everything from cozy backyard pools to large-scale commercial water features. Each one is its own story, and each one ends with people enjoying the water on a hot Georgia day.
Custom pool design lets us bring something unique to the table. Whether it’s a vanishing edge, a sun shelf, integrated spa, custom water features, or a fully tiled finish, we love working with clients to design pools that feel one-of-a-kind.
Dreaming of a Custom Pool of Your Own?
You don’t need a water park to enjoy a beautifully designed pool. Many Middle Georgia homeowners are surprised at what’s possible for their own backyards. Whether you’re imagining a sleek, modern infinity look or something more traditional with custom touches, we’d love to talk through it with you.
